LKY's comments T2P9

Taken from the Straits Times:
Mr Lee, who had first spoken on the contest there on Friday, yesterday reiterated that Aljunied voters must “accept the consequences of their actions” if they voted the PAP out.

“You must expect the PAP to look after PAP constituencies first,” he said.

When asked if his strong words might create a backlash against the PAP, he said simply: “I am 87, I am speaking the truth. I do not want to be hypocritical. You look at Hougang, and you think Hougang is better than all the other constituencies? It is the job of the PAP to look after its own constituencies first, right?”

This is obviously a threat to keep the PAP in power. They are threatening to not provide you with services that though are not necessary, are however leaving you less equipped and thus at a loss as compared to other estates in terms of property value and convenience. Just to keep in power.

I think that the PAP has no right to favour its own constituencies over those that belong to other parties. The money that they have is not the PAP's money and it does not belong only to the people in PAP constituencies. The money used is the money of the taxpayers in Singapore.

  1. Yes, I fully agree with your post. Moreover, it is definitely a stupid action of him to say that "It is the job of the PAP to look after its OWN constituencies first, right?"

Singaporeans are Singaporeans, it does not matter whether which constituencies they are, who is controlling that constituency. Furthermore, it might not be the case whereby everyone in that constituency voted for the opposition party. In addition, PAP themselves should actually reflect and find out the reason for their lost in that constituency instead of saying that they will not take care of it.

  2. Yesterday, just before the electoral results were released, my father commented that Lee Kuan Yew and his fellow high-ranking ministers have lost sight of the main aim of such political parties. It is to improve the lives of the citizens, not for their own power. Indeed, they have lost touch with the residents and citizens, perhaps because of their over-ridiculous high pay, maybe just because they have not interacted with the citizens enough. But we know for sure that we need a transformed PAP for Singapore to actually continue to prosper. Even Mr. George Yeo has admitted to that fact.

What Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has said has truly disappointed me. I do know that he has been a huge stepping stone for Singapore's success since the 1960s, but since then, the PAP has been failing us, their policies have greatly been for personal gain (or so it seems), and they have been using the "track record" as their shield. Even our exercises in Integrated Humanities have shown us this. Even in a subject reputed to be full of propaganda. Remember the inference exercise with Mr. Mah Bow Tan collapsing the HDB system?

Why are the political parties in Singapore not caring for the citizens anymore???
